What is Realistic Optimism? On Perspectives of Life;
We are all familiar with the terms negativity / positivity (pessimistic / optimistic) somewhere. It is a subject I like to research on, at least because it is one of my interests.
So there are only these two? So people just fall into two categories? Is this a personality trait? Is this situation permanent? I will answer your questions like these.
First of all, the concept that I value most and that most people are not familiar with is "Realism". I use this term; I define it as approaching things in a logical and neutral way as they are, not from good or bad perspectives.
I define myself as a "realist optimist". I do not live in a dream world like Pollyanna, like everything in life is so perfect, I also do not always dream of being constantly happy and laughing, nor do I look at events like everything else, this is this, this is this and that and that is the only reality. Yes, I do accept the truth, I understand the way the world progresses and the cause and effect of every event and its relation to the environment and with me, but I still believe that every event that happens for a reason and it is a lesson to me, I believe everything will end up good for me no matter what the outcome is, and I will always be fine no matter what.
In this way, people go between these 3 concepts. So no one can be completely separated into two categories. The human brain doesn't work like a machine. For example, machines; when you press a key on a computer, a command goes to the center and this action is pre-defined, so the result comes immediately. But the human brain doesn't work that way with 100% logic. People move between logic and emotion. While this process of functioning in a computer is in a straight line, reaching a result in the human brain takes a path as if it was randomly scribbled sketch with a pencil.
And yes, this is absolutely normal. Humans are biologically commanded in this way. In other words, there are moments when we are very happy and very positive, and we can also be very exhausted and very negative. This is the reason I am against unrealistic optimism. Our life can never be completely perfect as reflected in the media. Nobody can be 100% happy, nobody can be fully self-confident every minute of their life. And no, we don't need to be always laughing.
Believe me, even the most confident people you sometimes feel insecure. Emotions are like waves. They move constantly. The constant pursuit of happiness and running away from sadness erodes people psychologically. Happiness is in where we are. It is not a treasure hidden in a person, a success, or an object. Negative feelings such as sadness also belong to us and are no different from positive emotions. Instead of avoiding and running away from them, we should be there for ourselves, show compassion and approach ourselves with understanding, our mind and our heart, as we do to others. For every emotion we feel.
It is a way of thinking on the name of positive or negative thinking. It's a perspective on life, and no, it's not a permanent personality trait. It dominates the human mind and thoughts. As human beings, instead of letting our thoughts and feelings rule us, if we can manage them and we have responsibility and dominance in our own thoughts and behaviors.
If we have it, we will be much more successful and happy in life. We can change our minds. By educating ourselves, we can have a much broader and more comprehensive perspective in life.
A person who always wants to laugh, be happy, and keep everything going well will unfortunately be disappointed. Because life is not built like this. And I had this "unrealistically-positive" mindset a few years ago, until I was confronted with the facts. I think the current ideology I have is much healthier and much more secure.
I will explain the mindset I recommend to you;
“Everything in life is interdependent and in a connected relationship. I know my role in my life and take responsibility for my actions. I am confident and I believe in myself. I choose to be happy. I deserve to be happy. I know that everything goes well for me, even if it happens against my will. I learn from negative events and grow up as a wiser person. And whatever happens in life, any type of event, or anyone really; It is not more important than my physical and mental health. I prioritize my own happiness, my life quality and my health. No matter what happens to me, regardless of any event, I will be fine, I will be safe, I have the strength to overcome everything. Even if my actions weren’t enough, at least I know I tried my best. "
I wish you all happiness and health, If you have read so far, thank you for spending your valuable time and attention for me
